Trump, for all his braggadocio and buffoonery, has shown little fear of any of his political foes. A swaggering bully, his money and power (and to be fair stage presence) have allowed him to attack his opponents relentlessly with almost no push back.
Yet there are those Trump does seem genuinely afraid of. The three that spring to mind are Putin, McConnell and Chris Christie.
Trump cringed in front of Putin at every opportunity during his presidency, publicly said he took the Russian president’s word over the opinion of his intelligence agencies.
Trump took a shot at McConnell at 2017 but seemed to realize that he needed McConnel more than the GOP Senate leader needed him, and that Mitch wasn’t going to take any of Trump’s crap, unlike the rest of the GOP who were more than willing to publicly kowtow.
Now that Trump is no longer president and doesn’t have any need to pass legislation and McConnell condemned him for his role in Jan 6 their relationship has gone rapidly downhill. And Trump has taken joy in the public freezing (or ministrokes) the Senator has lately endured.
So we have seen Trump be afraid of Putin and McConnell, two people I would say he needed more than he needed them. Two people more skilled in politics than he was. But why do I say he’s afraid of Chris…
