Why Is The Washington Post Going the Way of the Wall Street Journal
The Washington Post has a new interim executive editor Matt Murray and will have another one after the election Robert Winnett. The CEO Will Lewis picked his two friends and all of them have background in conservative media.
Jeff Bezos is a multi-billionaire but apparently he’s upset the Washington Post, a last bastion of a dying medium (that goes for journalism and newspapers) that proclaimed a greater ethic than profit in it’s masthead “Democracy Dies in Darkness” but apparently being a light entails a high electric bill. So the owner of Amazon has decided journalism is hard and it’s so much easier to cater to a Right Wing conservative audience that doesn’t require or even want accuracy in it’s reporting.
That’s a plausible explanation and may even be true. But I can’t help but wonder if Bezos is more sympathetic to his fellow oligarchs (ahem I meant billionaires) like Murdoch, Musk, Thiel etc. They have all either bought out, ruined major information sources or both. Murdoch bought the WSJ and made it another piece of the Right Wing Echo chamber, Thiel destroyed Gawker and Musk bought and ruined Twitter all in the service of increasing the influence of the rich and powerful.
