Since the Democratic party seems willing to completely forfeit their agenda out of respect to a tradition that goes back to 1975 (the no-talk filibuster) and Biden has yet to even call #Munchkin and #Cinema out by name the question remains is there anything we can do? I would say there is a lot.
The sad truth, the dirty little secret that no one wants to talk about is legislation is usually after a campaign of political action, not before. The Civil Rights laws came after the marches (and mistreatment) of the Civil Rights Movement. Labor laws came after, not before, the armies and the police beat people for the crime of striking.
But does taking to the streets in this day and age work? There were nationwide protests throughout the last 4 years that the Trump admin routinely ignored. Black Lives Matter protests filled the streets, despite the Covid pandemic, but has struggled to produce true police reform as of yet.
So I am not calling for more marches. We are facing political oppression (as Republicans try to restrict mail in voting and make it harder to vote as is their wont) in pursuit of economic oppression. The Kochs and other billionaires do not want the people demanding they do things like obey anti-trust laws or pay their share of taxes. So we must understand and fight an economic war for our political freedoms.
