I have been watching with dismay as the Democratic Convention unfolds like a realtime trainwreck for progressives and liberals. The DNC fought to keep proposals like Medicare 4 all or ending subsidies to the fossil fuel industry off it’s platform or my personal best of the worst, lobbyists voting to keep lobbyist money coming into the DNC.
Then the DNC allotted Republicans, actual members of the opposing party, more time to speak than they did rising stars of the party like AOC . Given that Biden, the presidential candidate is over 70 years old, appealing to the youthful wing of the party would seem like a good idea. Except that youthful wing has all sorts of ideas and beliefs that the establishment wants no part of, like medicare 4all, ending subsidies to the fossil fuel industry and getting lobbyist money out of politics.
Instead of courting youth the DNC is courting moderate Republicans. But what if there’s a method to their madness. Maybe the DNC is wooing Republicans because they acknowledge, soon they’ll be the only ones allowed to vote?
