Congresswoman Pressley made a strong point on MSNBC that the American people don’t need ‘stimulus checks’ they need ‘survival checks.’ That this is not a matter of stimulating the economy, it’s providing for a population that is suffering through the worst pandemic in 100 years.
I am not disagreeing with that. But I am saying that this is about more than just survival, I want an apology. I want big fat apology checks to every single American. Because our government fucked us.
This disease has killed more Americans than World War II and did so in just 9 months. But it didn’t have to be this way. America has, categorically and in every possible way, handled this pandemic worse than every other country in the free world. Every single damned one.
And it’s not for lack of resources. It’s not even for lack of political will (at least not in the usual sense.) I have been saying that this administration, led in all things by Donald Trump, has been actively pro virus. Not just incompetent, but rooting for the other side. Then it came to light recently, that was in fact explicitly true. The administration encouraged/demanded schools to open not because (as they said at the time) children couldn’t get it, but because they KNEW they would and that would get them to their precious ‘Herd Immunity’ faster.
