Republican’s aren’t politicians. They’re the employees of the fossil fuel industry. The Republican party itself is best understood as the political arm of the fossil fuel industry.

Politicians attempt to get elected based on their positions and their record. George Santos lied about everything, almost literally everything about his record. This would be completely unethical for a politician and for the party he represents.

But George Santos won’t resign in disgrace, he won’t be condemned in any meaningful way by the Republican party. Because their job isn’t to get elected in a democratic way. Their job is to protect the interests of the billion dollar interests of the fossil fuel industry, which includes the powerful leaders of Saudi Arabia. So while the mainstream media failed in a colossal way (perhaps a complicit way) to expose the lies of Santos before he won his election. The NY Times exposing Republican scandals after elections is classic NY Times. The point is that the Republican ethos is not to participate in free and fair elections and win the war of ideas. The Republican ethos is to do whatever is necessary to protect the profits of the Fossil Fuel industry.

If you work for a business you don’t judge what’s the best for the industry as a whole. You work to maximize the outcome for the restaurant, movie theatre, dance club or…
