Once again the Senate Parliamentarian has told the Democrats “I say thee nay” as the old Thor comics used to put it. And Democrats, the eponymous mice in the title of the article, folded like a 99 cent card table.
So this does raise the question, what happened when a Senate parliamentarian had the temerity to defy Republicans seeking tax cuts? They promptly fired his ass. According to a Washington Post article from Aug 2001 then parliamentarian “angered Trent Lott” with two recent rulings and he was asked to tell his story walking.
Now Trent Lott was a lot of things, you might even call him a walking ethics violation who had to resign from the Senate in disgrace and scandal and probably should have been charged and convicted. But at least he was a man and not a mouse and didn’t cower behind the advisory rulings of a staffer.
Now I’m going to surprise my readers by zigging when you thought I’d zag. I agree with the Senate parliamentarian in his ruling. Before you gather the torches and the pitchforks dear readers (pitchforks is a fun word to spell and my instinct was to type pitforks for those who care about that kind of thing) I am currently volunteering pro bono on three asylum cases…
