My experiences of 2 nights protesting LAPD

First I want to say I wasn’t there when the police shot ‘less than lethal’ bullets at the protesters and confiscated their shields. I didn’t know that happened till I saw videos on twitter of the incident today. Sadly I am older and could not keep up with the young folks marching on the second night and quickly fell behind. I was better able to keep up the previous night on the 25th and marched for about an hour with them.

I make a point of that because I don’t want to claim stolen valor. I wasn’t there when the shit hit the fan. I was there on the night of the 25th and saw the police offers outside of the LAPD station looking like they were manning the Berlin Wall. The police should not resemble a military force.

The march on the first night I was there was peaceful and loud. Initially people gathered in front of the LAPD and a man had a black unity flag. In a lighthearted moment before the march began there was a football game on 1st street. I would have liked to participate but while everyone wore masks, I’m not sure everyone touching the same football is the Covid safe practice I want to follow.

The LAPD helicopters circled the march the entire time I was there on the 25h. There was a feeling the police might tear gas us or worse the entire time. I…
