Modern Policy Based on Ancient Forgery

It is an unlikely and unreasonable yet verifiable fact that a major component of our modern foreign policy has its roots in an ancient forgery.

First off, the foreign policy in question regards the US support of Israel. While both Democrats and Republicans support Israel, Evangelical Christians, a largely Republican demographic. are more vocal in their support of Israel than are even most Jewish Americans.

It turns out that certain devout Christians have been arguing for a refounding of the Jewish state since the 19th century. An interpretation of the Bible known as “Dispensationalism” argued that, in order for the Rapture (an end-of-the-world scenario that results in God coming to Earth after a period of intense suffering, and the good Christians all going to Heaven) to occur, the Jewish people needed to return to Israel and rebuild the Temple.

Granted, the 19th century, fascinating as its politics are, is hardly modern policy. But in 2018 Donald Trump moved the US Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. That is modern policy.
