I just gave a re-watch of the 1987 movie ‘Mannequin’ with Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall. I loved it as a teenager when I first saw it and still love it today. I think of Kim Cattrall as my first movie star crush. So I wanted to go online and see how many other people loved it and did a search. Sadly what I found that it was panned by reviewers at the time. Online Roger Ebert’s 1987 review says “A lot of bad movies are fairly throbbing with life. “Mannequin” is dead. The wake lasts 1 1/2 hours, and then we can leave the theater.” It hasn’t exactly been rehabilitated in modern times with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 21 percent score. Though audiences, both at the time and now are kinder, the site lists a 55 percent rating from audiences.

Okay, you’ve had your chance to avoid spoilers for a movie that was released back when Republican presidents could still win the popular vote. For me, it’s mostly about Kim Cattrall being whimsical and beautiful. About 1/3 of the movie is the antics of Andrew McCarthy and his mannequin that intermittently comes alive Emi playing dressup in the incredibly large department store. And I mean huge. At one point Emi flies a hanglider down from the top to the bottom while McCarthy’s Jonathon Swtizer…
