Republicans are quick to tout the myth of an individual pulling himself up by his bootstraps. They are also quick to demand the poor surmount any obstacle Republicans choose to put in their way to vote. But the truth of the party is represented by Jared Kushner, the beneficiary of nepotism, crony capitalism and good old fashioned grift.
Jared Kushner lives a life of unearned privilege that would make Kendall Roy from Succession look like a self-made man in comparison. Unable or unwilling to get the grades needed for Harvard in high school, his father dispensed a suitable donation (ie. bribe) of 2.5 million and he shot past his more hard working competitors. This is chronicled in an excellent 2016 article from Pro Publica by Daniel Golden. In the words of his high school administrators: “His GPA did not warrant it, his SAT scores did not warrant it. We thought for sure, there was no way this was going to happen. Then, lo and behold, Jared was accepted.”
