It seems the U.S. has lost whatever slight tolerance for ambiguity it used to have.
On social media you must pledge fidelity to Biden or be a facilitator of fascism. Or contrariwise you must demand Biden withdraw from the campaign and insist there will be no difficulties that arise from that.
The situation, in my view, as you might expect is much more ambiguous.
First people are arguing why isn’t Trump being asked to withdraw by the Republicans for his 34 felony convictions, his association with Epstein, his authoritarian aspirations etc.
There are some differences. Trump faced numerous challengers in a primary that was not subject to both a media blackout and electioneering shenanigans. Biden was more protected than a white heavyweight boxer in the 80’s.
Trump’s followers are either completely willing to turn a blind eye to his faults or else they embrace them. Many of his followers say they’re glad he’ll be a dictator on day one. And the authors of Project 2025 and the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society are more than willing to help him dismantle the administrative state, which is to say our entire government framework and social safety net.
Biden hasn’t built his brand on a willingness to say crazy things and perform wild unconstitutional acts. I kind of wish he…
