Magnus ducked as the ogre threw a rock at his head. He’d half expected this as his friend Edmund had spent quite a bit of time complaining about his mentor’s teaching methods when they used to hang out at the tavern near his castle. Well really in his castle, but being duke he had declared it not part of his castle, as otherwise he and his guard would just be drinking at work, which was bad for discipline.

Edmund’s mentor was also an ogre and not to stereotype, but was also fond of throwing rocks.

Magnus continued with his strategy of hunkering down and hoping this problem would be solved by somebody else. Unfortunately one of those somebody else’s appeared to have the same idea.

“C’mon Josh” he whisper shouted “you’re supposed to have magic. Lay some of that urban druid smack down on this guy!”

“Yeah, ogre’s aren’t really my purview. I’m wicked awesome with possum’s though.”

“Great, if we come up against a giant rat I’ll be sure to hide behind you.”

“They prefer to be called rodents of unusual size” Josh said deadpan.

Phil, the vampire folk singer, had ducked under the ogre’s bowling ball sized fist and jabbed him twice in the ribs. Even with his supernatural strength this bothered the ogre not a whit and he picked the…
