McConnell was exhilarated at the thought of finally being free of Trump. This is according to an Apr 25, 2022 Forbes article.
“An exhilarated” McConnell raised the possibility of removing Trump from office using the 25th Amendment, which allows the vice president and a majority of Congress to declare the president “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office,” immediately making the vice president acting president, the Washington Post quoted This Will Not Pass as saying.”
Kevin McCarthy the leader of the Republicans in the House said he would recommend that Trump resign because of his behaviour on Jan 6th. A year and half later he was willing to deny saying that even in the teeth of evidence to the contrary.
What about McConnell? If he was so relieved to be free of Trump, why is Trump still running the GOP? Why are politicians begging for his endorsement in Mar a Lago? Because the GOP is the party of cowards.
McConnell wanted Trump disposed of but wanted to bear as little political damage as possible, both to himself and his party. So he slowed down the impeachment and refused to vote in favor of convicting Trump, despite his condemnation of Trump, and what we now was his desire for Trump’s political destruction.
