Member-only story
A few months back my name was given to California Insider, a youtube news show that explores issues effecting California. This was in regards to an article I had written for WhoWhatWhy about AirBnB and it’s effect on the housing crisis. (Incidentally this proved for me that at least one person read my article.)
I like the idea of being on video as much as the next person with a face made for radio. But the email address had after the @ symbol theepochtimes. Now I don’t know if you know but the epoch times is affiliated with a cult, and they’re also incredibly right wing and parroted the Trump lies about the stolen election. So despite my eagerness to get my point of view out there and to be seen by the tens of thousands of viewers I have the principles so I said no, despite the urging of an activist friend who said as long as people here my message that’s what’s important.
It is therefore, with some vindication and sense of karma that I have enjoyed this story which has emerged. The CEO of the Epoch Times is under investigation for international fraud and money laundering to the tune of millions of dollars. The indictment alleges that members of a division called the ‘Make Money Online’ team (great name guys) would purchase the illegally obtained funds with cryptocurrency and funnel the proceeds back to the Epoch Times through numerous layers of transactions. During the time alleged the Epoch Times profits increased by 400 percent (who says crime doesn’t pay?)
Apparently the Epoch Times is also affiliated with a dance troupe. Dance is super boring, but if it’s your kind of thing, still remember don’t support cults. Unless I start one. Then you should support that. It will be a good one and involve laser tag.
