There are times voting Democrat can feel like punching yourself in the face.
One of the many many horrible aspects of the Trump regime was the child separation policy and other draconian policies towards asylum seekers at the border. Asylum seekers. By definition people saying they risk death if they stay in their native country.
I tried to do my part during for asylum seekers at that time. I went to protests outside Border Patrol agencies. I volunteered on two asylum cases and one transgendered client received political asylum (the other resulted in termination of removal proceedings) and both my clients were allowed to stay in the U.S.
And I held my nose and voted for Biden (I felt just like 2016 Bernie got screwed by the DNC establishment) because I felt (and feel) that Trump is a wannabe dictator and may actually achieve his ambitions at some point.
And now, just as I was giving Biden credit for his work against monopolies, he decides on his own, not even a deal with Republicans where he would possibly get some compensation in a different political priority, to close the border by executive order. Just because he thinks this will garner him more support from Republican voters. Every Dem in my lifetime has been chasing Republican voters. How many Republicans do you see chasing Dem voters? And of course both sides hate progressives.
Voting for Dems and seeing them dither away their political advantages and failing to pass liberal legislation I’m used to. But seeing them on their own initiative pursue Republican priorities…it’s not fun. But right now our only options are Biden, Trump or maybe a general strike where we don’t work until they give us decent candidates and a meaningful democracy.
