American Democracy is Dead

Democracy is DOA in the United States Nov 2020. That’s a strong claim I know but I stand by it.

On Nov 7th the, for want of a better word, President of the United States said the 2020 presidential election was “rigged” and as recently as 4 days ago tweeted about widespread fraud that cost him the election. Now I would be the last person to advocate trusting Trump on anything large and small so I do not move from his assertion that the election was fraudulent to democracy being only formerly extant in the United States.

However this does create a logical fork. On the one hand, suppose the Orange One is correct and there was widespread fraud that thwarted the popular will and stole the election in favor of Biden. If that was the case than the votes of 140 million plus people were meaningless and the leadership of the United States was gifted by a criminal conspiracy and he would presumably rule in a way to benefit this conspiracy. Such a government is many things but democratic is not one of them.

But, if as is likely, Trump is lying and the election was not rigged, where does that leave us? Because, stay with me, if the President of the United States is calling a presidential election to determine the governance of 330 million people, an election with close to 150 million participants rigged and fraudulent without any substantial evidence than…
