(Verse 1)
Some people can quote the bible
chapter and verse
I’m not that religious
for better or worse

(Verse 2)
But I can quote you statutes
and case law near and far
I might keep you out of prison
because I studied for the bar

(Chorus)
But the last three weeks have scared me
nothing’s like it was before
I studied to be a lawyer
but there ain’t no law no more

(Verse 3)
Now everything’s illegal
or maybe nothing at all
it seems to just depend
on just who makes the call

(Verse 4)
you can lock the doors on Congress
dissolve Education on a whim
kids in Africa can’t get their meds
it all seems so dark and grim

(Chorus)
But the last three weeks have scared me
nothing’s like it was before
I studied to be a lawyer
but there ain’t no law no more

(Verse 5)
But when they defy court orders
and tell the police disloyalty’s a crime
How do I argue for our rights
without doing my own time

(Verse 6)
if the courts won’t protect us
out of this hole we have to climb
and dream up a better future
before such dreaming is a crime

(Chorus)
But the last three weeks have scared me
nothing’s like it was before
I studied to be a lawyer
but there ain’t no law no more
