While Republicans are raving about ‘stop the steal’ and invading the Capitol building as they do, there are some details that are getting overlooked. Republicans actually far outperformed in the election compared to the polling. In fact they did so to a wildly improbably degree. In 27 House races marked by political experts as ‘toss up’ ie. roughly 50–50 or too close to call, Republicans won every single one. Every single one.
That’s an incredibly strong claim so let me give you the quote from the source, a CNN article on 11/17/2020
We’re all familiar with the observer effect in Quantum physics. That is not a leading sentence you read every day is it? I’m not sure it’s even true. For those of you who haven’t read books on Quantum Physics and/or watched every episode of the Big Bang Theory, there is an accepted principle of physics that a particle can be affected by the act of observing it.
Now for those who have ever struggled with a less than stellar credit rating you may be aware that applying for a loan or credit card negatively impacts your credit rating because of…reasons…
I joined the U.S. Coast Guard right out of high school, as one does. At least as one does if your father is a tax cheat and you don’t want his lies about his income on your financial aid forms. So while every student in my New Jersey high school class went to college in one form or another, I and one other senior joined the military. (We weren’t friends, he was kind of an asshole and I heard he joined the Marines.)
I surprised many of my teachers and classmates by making it through boot camp (I was in…
Biden has proposed $80 billion in funding to the IRS. Theoretically this is actually a good and progressive thing. Now I’m skeptical and critical of Biden but I am in favor of this and give him credit, if the effects match the goal.
The idea is that the IRS devotes its time to auditing the low to medium income earners because it is cheaper to audit them than the high earners who can afford to lawyer up to the nth degree. Therefore increasing the budget will allow them to go after high earners, and thus pay for itself and beyond.
The 2020 election was an existential threat to democracy. The damage that Trump did to our system of government (in addition to the half a million American lost lives that he is responsible for) is but a preface to the harm he would have done with an additional four years with all the people willing to say no to him out of the administration.
Then there were the endless challenges as well as the bare faced attempt to set aside the results for purely partisan reasons. …
Well, I’ll admit it. I didn’t have GOP bashing major corporations on my pandemic bingo card. But bash them they have. When Major League Baseball criticized the newest round of voter suppression coming from Georgia the GOP didn’t pull any punches. Brian Kemp, governor of Georgia slammed this as the latest example of ‘cancel culture.’ Sen Ted Cruz went further and said he would be looking to end MLB’s immunity from anti-trust statutes.
In fact the GOP has gone beyond just bashing corporations, they have taken to threatening them. And not with boycotts either. Ted Cruz wants to revoke MLB’s…
In an interview on Mar 25 2021, Trump said “If you really look, I didn’t listen to him too much because I was doing the opposite of what he was saying.” He was referring to Dr. Fauci, saying that the Doctor was only praised because he disagreed with Trump, and that Trump disdained his advice. This was in the context of Fauci being political and clearly in Trump’s opinion, not good at his job.
This is supremely inconsistent and idiotic, in other words archetypically Trump. The Trump administration put politics over every other possible priority, and certainly over American lives…
Love is never a straight shot
it follows strange geometries
space warped by jealousies and doubts
drawn by strange attractors
parabolas of attraction
drawing the eye
like a gravity well
irresistible as a black hole
and just as fatal
trying to navigate the space between
the person we imagine and the
lover we hold
eyes wide open yet
never seeing each other
light distorted as it travels space curved
by the gravity of love
hearts wander like planets
not in circles but ellipses
a wobbling orbit
sometimes nearer betimes further
yet always defined by the foci of
1:09 pm is when the Capitol police first asked for National Guard backup. 5:20 pm is when National Guard troops from Virginia actually arrive, after being delayed for hours by the Pentagon. The insurrectionists were able to swarm the capitol building and might have killed members of congress and the vice-president if not for the heroics of some of the officers of the Capitol Police.
But what was the endgame? How did even the murder of members of congress or even Mike Pence help the political chances of Donald J. Trump? Well first consider some of the maneuvers in the…
